This morning I woke a little earlier than I intended to, but I still had a post to complete for the day, and didn’t want too much of the day to trickle away before completing this task. Within minutes my computer was within reach, and I still frittered away at least an hour before writing posting on the Mayan Daily Insights.
Setting Intent – facing in a certain direction, imagining a goal, creating outcome prior to achieving it.
I realize now that I allowed myself to be absorbed in thoughts. It’s not very often that we are NOT absorbed in a thought or focal point. But, the point was I chose to give my time and attention to something other than my intent.
I did finally finish my post..I was happy with it, but I still had a little resistance to work through before I could complete every nuance of the intended task. Why do we create resistance around something we want to achieve? Is it because of mixed feelings, or uncertainty? Maybe the resistance is simply a sign of a breakthrough to someplace we’ve never been before.
I have this wonderful image of skyrocketing toward my goal, and seeing sparks fly as I push my heels down into the ground. Its funny to harbor such a thought, as if I could slow my progress in any way. Maybe the distractions are just a way I entertain myself as I’m racing toward my goal.
Commitment to our goals is not always smooth sailing. Nearly everything we create is an array of variables wrapped around an ambiguous dream. Sometimes we reach the goal, stand back, tilt our head to the side, and ask, “Did I get what I asked for?”, having long forgotten the wisp of thought that started us on this path in the first place.
Setting intent – it’s a simple act, until we complicate it. Sometimes our distractions are a way to step outside the clutter so we can gain our perspective. Other times we use distractions as a staging area while we examine and process our steps.
In the long run everything works out, maybe not in a way we would describe as “for the better” but it works out to satisfy something. Next time perhaps a little more of our thought energy could be given to the intents we create, to build a stronger pathway as assure an outcome we can stand behind.
